San Bernardino, CA – At its meeting last month, the Omnitrans Board of Directors elected current Vice Chair and Mayor Pro Tem of Ontario Alan D. Wapner to its Chair position, and current Board Member and Mayor of Highland Penny Lilburn to the position of Vice Chair. Both have previously served as Omnitrans Board of Directors Chairs and will hold their positions for a period of two years.
“Mayor Pro Tem Wapner and Mayor Lilburn have a long history of leadership and dedication to Omnitrans,” said CEO/General Manager Erin Rogers of the election. “As we are in a time of exciting regional growth, I look forward to partnering with the Board to provide mobility solutions to connect our communities.”
Wapner, who has served as an Omnitrans Board member since 2000, has been a member of the Ontario City Council for more than 30 years. He is a retired Ontario police sergeant, who led efforts to regain local control of Ontario International Airport. In addition to serving as President of the Airport Authority, Wapner serves as a board member of the National Association of Regional Councils, the California Association of Councils of Government, the Southern California Regional Rail Authority, the Southern California Association of Governments Regional Council, the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA), the San Bernardino County Council of Governments, and the Southern California Association of Governments.
“As my work in the region indicates, I believe that transit is a vital service and I look forward to partnering with my fellow Board members to lead Omnitrans through community-changing projects like the West Valley Connector. None of this would be possible without the hard work of our CEO Erin Rogers and her outstanding staff,” said Wapner of his election.
Lilburn also has an impressive record of public service, having served on the Highland City Council and Omnitrans Board of Directors for more than 20 years. In addition to her professional role as Executive Director of the Highland Senior Center, Lilburn serves as an alternate Board member for SBCTA and is a member of the San Bernardino International Airport Authority Commission and the Boards of the St. Bernardine’s Medical Center Foundation, the VNA Hospice and Palliative Care of Southern California. She is a founding member of the Highland Kiwanis Club.
Said Lilburn of her election, “Omnitrans has ambitious goals for the years ahead, and I look forward to working with its committed team to achieve success and enhance the quality of life in our region.”
