NATIONAL— VP Records joins the Jamaican community at home, in New York, and across the diaspora in mourning the passing of Alsion Roach-Wilson, CD, Consul General of Jamaica to New York.

Appointed in 2019, Consul General Roach-Wilson served as Jamaica’s principal representative to the Northeastern United States, where she worked to strengthen cultural and economic ties between Jamaica and its diaspora. A trained finance professional, she applied the same focus and precision from her private sector work to her role in public service.

VP Records worked closely with Consul General Roach-Wilson on various projects that brought Jamaica’s culture to the forefront of national and community development. Among them were the Telethon Jamaica: Together We Stand broadcast, which raised more than $50 million JMD for Jamaica’s health sector during the COVID-19 pandemic; her initiative to deliver oxygen canisters to hospitals in Jamaica during that same period; and the annual Jamaica Independence Gala in New York, which supports scholarships and charitable programs benefiting communities in Jamaica. She also advanced the Jamaica Heritage Awards, honoring individuals and organizations for their contributions to Jamaican life at home and abroad.

“CG Roach-Wilson was committed to getting things done. She recognized how much Jamaica’s culture contributes to its strength and supported projects that reflected that. She will be dearly missed,” said Christopher Chin, CEO of VP Records.

VP Records extends condolences to her family and the staff of the Jamaican Consulate in New York.
