Thursday, May 1: King College Night

SAN BERNARDINO, CA- On Thursday, May 1 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. California GEAR UP in conjunction with King Middle School AVID program will be hosting a College Night .King Middle School is a recipient of the CA GEAR UP Grant where students had the opportunity to participate in a competition to earn a $2,000 ScholarShare trust award that can be used for college. “The American Nurse” Comes to San Bernardino: Friday, May 9

SAN BERNARDINO, CA- In honor of Nurses Week, the Global Nursing Program will be showing the new film “The American Nurse” in the ASU Fox Theater in San Bernardino on Friday, May 9 at 7 p.m.. Tickets are $8 at the door or online at www.gNp193.com. Doors open at 6 p.m.

 The American Nurse is a heart-warming documentary that gives a voice to nurses who are on the front lines of the biggest issues facing America: aging, war, poverty, prisons through the work and lives of five nurses. It is an examination of real people that will change how we think about nurses and how we wrestle with the challenges of healing America. The American Nurse is an important contribution to America’s ongoing conversation about what it means to care.

Professionals that see the documentary can earn 1.5 CE credits through an arrangement with www.nurse.com. A portion of the proceeds from The American Nurse Project have been earmarked to a new scholarship program under the auspices of the American Nurses Foundation.

The historic ASU Fox Theater was originally opened in 1929 and was the site for the West Coast premiere of the original “King Kong” film in 1933. Located at 374 West Court Street, the ASU Fox Theater is just a block from City Hall in downtown San Bernardino, across the street from the Bank of America.

The event to launch the Give BIG campaign begins at 3 p.m. on April 30  at the San Bernardino County Government Center, 385 N. Arrowhead Avenue in San Bernardino. Give BIG San Bernardino County is a 24-hour online giving campaign which allows you to give to your favorite causes in the community. The goal is to get everyone who cares about the residents of San Bernardino County to assist in raising a minimum of $300,000 in just 24 hours on May 8, 2014. Immanuel Baptist Church Hosts Breakfast and Prayer: Thursday, May 1

HIGHLAND, CA- The community is invited to come join Immanuel Baptist Church for their prayer breakfast on Thursday, May 1 at 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.. The event will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church in the Fellowship Hall, “C” Building. The main purpose of the event is for the community, pastors and church staff to come together in prayer. They will be praying for our communities, our state, nation, and asking God to send revival and spiritual awakening. The breakfast will start at 8 a.m., and prayer time will proceed after. There will be no charge to attend, but guests must RSVP as soon as possible, no later than 12 p.m. on Monday, April 28. Jessica Reedy to Perform New Single “Better” at the Kirk Franklin Gospel Brunch

LOS ANGELES, CA- Gospel recording artist Jessica Reedy will perform live at the Kirk Franklin Gospel Brunch at the House of Blues Los Angeles, 8430 Sunset Blvd in West Hollywood (90069), on Sunday, April 20 at 1 p.m.  As part of a year-long 20th anniversary celebration, Reedy was selected by Grammy-Award winning star Kirk Franklin as one of the featured artists to join him in a showcase of gospel and contemporary music spectacular.  Best known for her success as the runner-up on Season 2 of the BET hit show “Sunday Best,” Reedy’s debut album “From the Heart” reached the top of the Billboard Chart at number one.  Reedy is preparing for the release of her second album “Transparent” under her own label Purity Records. Countdown to This Year’s Headdress Ball Has Begun

Headdrees ModelSAN BERNARDINO, CA- Rehearsals for the Assistance League of San Bernardino’s 53RD Annual Signature Headdress Ball are in full swing and coming to the final weeks of practice for the 10 headdress models and the volunteer dancers that will be performing with them. The National Orange Show will play host to this year’s Headdress Ball on Saturday, April 12. There will be a matinee performance at 10 a.m. that will include lunch and the presentation of the headdresses.  The cost to attend the matinee is $75 per person.   The evening gala celebration will begin with a cocktail reception at 5:30 p.m. sponsored by the Signature Club.  Tickets for the evening black-tie performance are $150 per person.  The tables seat 10 for the evening dinner performance. This year’s headdress models will include Assistance League members: Lillian Vasquez-Wisegarver (Colton), Nancy Gutierrez (Rancho Cucamonga), Margaret Ortiz (San Bernardino), and Marsha Scott (Redlands).  Representing Les Confreres, an auxiliary organization of the Assistance League are Louise Hummel (San Bernardino) and Danielle Hilder (LakeArrowhead). Join the Fight Against Cancer: Entertainment Industry Foundation’s Revlon Run/Walk for Women Announces 2014 Hosts

LOS ANGELES, CA- Revlon, The Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) and Lilly Tartikoff are proud to announce the 21st annual EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women.  Revlon Brand Ambassador Emma Stone will host the 2014 event in New York on Saturday, May 3 and Revlon Brand Ambassador Halle Berry, along with Christina Applegate will host in Los Angeles on Saturday, May 10.

Stone will be returning for her third year to host the New York Run/Walk, while Berry is celebrating her eighth year participating in the EIF Revlon Run/Walk, and hosting the Los Angeles event with Christina Applegate.  The Run/Walk was launched in Los Angeles in 1994 through the combined efforts of Lilly Tartikoff, Ronald O. Perelman, Chairman of Revlon, Inc., and EIF with a second event in New York City added shortly after. To date, nearly one million people have participated in the EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women and the Run/Walks have distributed more than $70 million to support women’s cancer research, counseling and outreach programs.
