MORENO VALLEY. CA – The City of Moreno Valley is proclaiming a day Textile Waste Awareness Day based on the Bronze Award project of Girl Scout Troop 287. The Special Presentation will take place Tuesday, October 20th at 5:30pm.
The girls learned about textile waste domestically and internationally. They watched a webinar on textile waste and visited a dump. The troop also reached out to a non-profit that turns old textiles into usable clothes who were kind enough to answer the questions the troop came up with and pointed them in the direction of ways that they could help their community.
The girls decided they wanted to do a clothing swap for other kids. They organized a swap at a Girl Scout location, made posters educating the community while they shopped, and gave a short speech about textile waste in our community to kick off the day. It went to so well that they ended up doing a presentation for the City Council and had a day pronounced Textile Awareness Day in the community.
