RIVERSIDE, CA— A coalition led by the Inland Empire Black Young Democrats (IEBYD) is calling on residents to take action against unchecked law enforcement power in Riverside County. On Tuesday, July 1, at 6:30 p.m., in Riverside, the group will host a community organizing meeting focused on demanding greater oversight of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The meeting, described as more than just a gathering, is a call to action—a pivotal opportunity to channel public outrage into coordinated community organizing. The event seeks to address long-standing concerns about over policing, lack of accountability, and the absence of adequate oversight within the Sheriff’s Department.
Darrell Frye, President of the Black Young Dems (IE), emphasized the urgency of the issue. “We know what it means to live in a county where law enforcement operates without oversight—where communities are overpoliced, underserved, and unheard,” he stated. “This is about deciding that enough is enough.”
The evening will feature remarks from County Supervisor Jose Medina, who will discuss the formation of a new oversight committee, and the steps residents can take to ensure law enforcement serves the public interest—not just itself. The goal of the meeting is to educate and mobilize community members on how to demand transparency, accountability, and justice from the Sheriff’s Department.
Organizers stress that accountability is not optional. “This work is urgent. It is necessary. And it will not happen without us,” Frye added.

The IEBYD affirms that this movement is about building a county that sees, hears, and responds to its residents. “If we don’t demand accountability now, we send the message that they can continue to act without consequence,” the group stated. “We’re not here to ask politely. We’re here to organize—and we want the community to stand with us.”
