From the Pews to Power Moves: How ChurchSpace Is Turning Sacred Ground into Economic Gold in Detroit

In a world where Black founders still receive less than 1% of venture capital, seeing a company rise with both purpose and power is nothing short of revolutionary.

ChurchSpace, a mission-led tech platform designed to reimagine how churches use their space, just raised $1.2 million in funding—and it’s more than just a business win. It’s a spiritual and strategic breakthrough.

Led by Emmanuel Brown, the funding round attracted major support from the City of Detroit, Mayor Mike Duggan, and bold investors like Black Ops Ventures, Minor Capital, and Michigan Rise. Now, ChurchSpace is moving its headquarters from Houston to Detroit to spark a new era of community-rooted entrepreneurship—starting with the city’s churches.

But while the capital is crucial, it’s CEO Day Edwards’ story that gives this movement its soul.

“I watched my mom struggle just to serve,” Edwards shares. “She built a church from the ground up, but the financial and emotional strain nearly broke our family. She prayed through overdue bills and exhaustion until she passed away from a heart attack and stroke—still trying to hold it all together.”

That lived experience is what inspired ChurchSpace—to make sure no other ministry leader has to carry that kind of burden alone.

ChurchSpace helps churches turn their unused buildings into revenue-generating hubs—hosting events, offering outreach services, and even partnering in logistics like last-mile delivery. In Texas, some churches on the platform have earned up to $100,000 a year, reinvesting that income into youth programs, food banks, and community support.

“This isn’t just tech,” Edwards affirms. “It’s stewardship. It’s economic justice. It’s creating a sustainable future for faith communities to not only survive—but thrive.”

And the move to Detroit? It’s personal. It’s powerful. It’s prophetic.

With churches already onboarding across the city, and a full-scale partnership underway with local officials, ChurchSpace is laying the groundwork for sacred spaces to become centers of innovation, impact, and income.

As Brown puts it, “This raise is more than a business milestone—it’s a testament to what happens when strategy meets faith. When vision defies the odds and purpose outweighs circumstance.”

This is the kind of story that reminds us: faith and innovation don’t have to exist in separate rooms. Sometimes, they’re both under the same roof.
