SACRAMENTO, CA— The public is invited to experience California 175 – Matunda Ya Kwanza and a special tribute to Minister Imhotep Alkebulan of Wo’se Community of the Sacred African Way as part of the 27th Annual kickoff of the “California Grown” Pan-African Global Holiday. The opening ceremony will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, December 26, 2025, on the West Steps of the California State Capitol.
Later that day, the celebration continues with the 2025 Greater Sacramento Kwanzaa Unity Celebration at 4:30 p.m. at Rancho Cordova City Hall in the American River Room, located at 2829 Prospect Park Drive in Rancho Cordova, California.
Drawing participants from across the global Pan-African Diaspora, the celebration centers on Umoja, the first principle of Kwanzaa, emphasizing unity within the family, community, nation, and race. The event offers an opportunity for all to experience and learn about a uniquely “California Grown” interpretation of the seven-day Pan-African agricultural harvest celebration that is observed globally. Everyone is welcome to attend and engage in this meaningful cultural experience.
Sacramento native Khubaka Michael Harris, President and CEO of the California Black Agriculture Working Group, continues his longstanding commitment to organizing and coordinating the 27th Annual California State Capitol Kwanzaa activities. His efforts remain focused on expanding Pan-African global trade and commerce in a principled and culturally grounded way.
The 2025 Greater Sacramento Kwanzaa Umoja Celebration will feature distinguished speakers, including Pastor Carl Dee Amattoe of Nations Life Chapel and City of Rancho Cordova Mayor Garrett Gatewood, alongside a host of invited regional community leaders. Attendees will also enjoy live musical performances and historical reflections from Sacramento 175 – Matunda Ya Kwanza, honoring early Sacramento pioneers of Pan-African heritage.
A signature highlight of the celebration is “Farm to Fork Friday,” offering a taste of “California Grown” Pan-African cuisine. Food samples will be available, reflecting the spirit of unity and the cultural significance of shared meals in bringing people together.
In addition to the official program and light refreshments, families and community members will have the opportunity to participate in collective Kwanzaa children’s arts and crafts activities. These activities are paired with guided conversations exploring the origins and year-round practice of Kwanzaa, encouraging reflection, dialogue, and shared creativity across generations.
Guests of all ages are invited to enjoy an uplifting evening of art, rhythm, and spiritual connection as the community reflects on the importance of building and sustaining unity throughout Greater Sacramento. The 2025 Greater Sacramento Kwanzaa Unity Celebration is a free, public community event, and all are welcome to attend and participate.
