RIALTO, CA— The City of Rialto and the Rialto Unified School District (RUSD) came together to host the third annual Juneteenth Jam—an energetic and meaningful celebration of freedom, culture, and community. The event honored the historical significance of Juneteenth, which commemorates June 19, 1865—the day when the last enslaved African Americans in Texas were finally informed of their emancipation, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
This year’s Juneteenth Jam served as a vibrant reminder of resilience, progress, and unity. RUSD played a central role in the festivities, showcasing a variety of district programs such as Student Services and the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program. Informational booths offered families resources and ways to get more involved, while also highlighting the efforts of the District African American Parent Advisory Council (DAAPAC).
Several RUSD students were recognized for their academic excellence, drawing praise from event attendees and leaders alike. Interim Superintendent Dr. Judy D. White attended the celebration, joining staff, families, and community members in honoring both history and student achievement.
Dr. Ayanna Balogun, RUSD’s Agent of Equity, Access, and Excellence, was instrumental in facilitating the collaboration between the school district and the City of Rialto, helping ensure the success of the event.
With soulful musical performances, diverse food vendors, a women’s 3-on-3 basketball tournament, and dozens of community booths, the Juneteenth Jam brought together residents of all ages for a day filled with joy, pride, and connection.
The event served as a powerful display of what unity and progress look like in action—and a heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who participated and made the celebration a memorable one.
