SAN BERNARDINO — Applications for the 17th Annual Operation Recognition Veterans Diploma Project are now being accepted. The annual ceremony, held by San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools (SBCSS), in partnership with the San Bernardino County Department of Veterans Affairs, awards diplomas to eligible individuals whose high school education was interrupted due to military service or internment by federal order during World War II.
The project provides an opportunity for veterans and internees who served in and received an honorable discharge from World War II, the Korean War, or the Vietnam War, or individuals who were interned in a Japanese American relocation camp, to receive a high school diploma, as authorized through the California Education Code. Since 2009, the project has honored and recognized 300 veterans from throughout the County.
To qualify, applicants must be a current San Bernardino County resident and must have been enrolled in a high school prior to enlistment or internment. There is no charge to participate. Surviving family members of those who meet these requirements are also encouraged to apply for posthumous recognition.
To be considered for this year’s recognition, applications must be submitted by Monday, October 13, 2025. Qualified applicants will be provided with ceremony details.
Applications may be obtained online at vdp.sbcss.k12.ca.us.
