MORENO VALLEY, CA (June 24, 2025) – Riverside University Health System – Medical Center (RUHS – MC) is among just 5% of hospitals nationwide to receive a top tier ranking in social responsibility from the Lown Institute, a nationally-recognized nonprofit think tank.
The Medical Center achieved Honor Roll status in the 2025-26 Lown Hospitals Index for Social Responsibility, published June 24. The index ranks more than 2,700 U.S. hospitals on their approach to social responsibility. This is the second year in a row RUHS earned this achievement.
The ranking factors a hospital’s performance in multiple categories. RUHS earned “A” grades across all top categories of social responsibility, value of care and patient outcomes as well as the subcategories of clinical outcomes, patient safety, community benefit, inclusivity and pay equity.
“As a safety net hospital, RUHS – Medical Center strives to provide high quality care to any Riverside County resident who may need it,” said Dr. Alexandra Clark, Chief Medical Officer for RUHS-MC. “Our team works exceptionally hard, day in and day out, to take care of our community, and we’re so glad that is reflected in the Lown Index.”
RUHS is the only public hospital in the county, serving some of the region’s most complex care needs and operating as a Level 1 Trauma Center.
The Moreno Valley campus, together with 14 Community Health Centers across the county, log more than 750,000 patient visits each year; those numbers do not include 100,000 emergency room visits annually or an inpatient average daily volume of 420 in the 439-bed hospital.
Over the last decade, RUHS has increased access to care by opening seven new Community Health Centers and expanding primary and specialty services at seven existing clinics. Six RUHS Express Care locations also serve as an entry point for patients and lead to ongoing primary care.
The Lown Institute is a 501(c)(3) that advocates for health equity and improved healthcare for Americans. The Institute has led dialogue on overtreatment, pioneered research into unnecessary care and developed a risk adjustment tool for improved patient outcomes.
This is the sixth year the Lown Institute has published its social responsibility-focused index, which uses 54 metrics to determine hospital performance.
