SACRAMENTO, GA– Assemblymember Robert Garcia (D–Rancho Cucamonga) is proud to announce that Megan Telles, Emmy Award–winning journalist and co-anchor of the KTLA 5 Weekend Morning News, has been selected as the 2026 Woman of the Year for California’s 50th Assembly District.

Megan Telles will be formally recognized on the floor of the California State Assembly on Monday, March 16, as part of the Legislature’s annual Woman of the Year celebration, which honors women from across California who have made extraordinary contributions to their communities.

“Megan represents the very best of our region,” said Assemblymember Garcia. “Through her journalism, she keeps our communities informed and tells the stories that matter most to Southern California. Her integrity and commitment to service make her an exceptional choice for Woman of the Year.”

A trusted voice in Southern California, Telles has become a familiar face to millions as coanchor of the KTLA 5 Weekend Morning News. Since joining KTLA in 2018, she has reported on some of the most defining moments affecting the region, notably from the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, while also helping bring communities together through major regional events such as the Los Angeles Marathon and KTLA’s Rose Parade Pre-Show.

A proud Southern California native, Telles was born in West Covina and raised in Rancho Cucamonga, within what is now Assembly District 50. She often describes herself as an “Army Brat,” shaped by the strength and resilience she learned from her father’s 21 years of service in the United States Army.

An Emmy Award–winning journalist, Telles is a proud graduate of Los Osos High School and the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. She is also a strong advocate for education and student achievement, hosting KTLA’s monthly
segment “School Spirit Spotlight with Megan Telles,” which highlights high schools across Southern California that inspire and uplift the next generation of leaders.

In 2024, Telles was recognized by the National Association of Hispanic Journalists as the Most Influential Latina Journalist, a testament to her leadership in media and her commitment to authentic storytelling that reflects the diverse communities of Southern California.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Telles is deeply devoted to her family. She married her high school sweetheart in 2015 and is the proud mother of two children, Lola Rae and Troy, who she describes as her greatest joys and daily inspiration.

Assemblymember Garcia will present Telles with the official recognition on the California State Assembly Floor in Sacramento on Monday, March 16, celebrating her achievements and her lasting impact on communities throughout the Inland Empire and Southern California.

“Whether she is reporting the news, celebrating students, or highlighting community stories, Megan’s professionalism and authenticity reflect in everything she does,” Garcia said.

“Assembly District 50 is proud to honor her as our 2026 Woman of the Year.”

Assemblymember Robert Garcia proudly represents the 50th Assembly District, which includes all or parts of the cities of Colton, Fontana, Loma Linda, Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga, Redlands, Rialto, and San Bernardino, as well as unincorporated Bloomington.
